“Today I’m going to show you how to repair scratches on your vehicle’s paint,” YouTuber DockMack Garage (@DockMackGarage) said in a video.

The content creator has built a following of 15,700 subscribers on the video platform, where he shares money-saving car repair tips and DIY videos.

In the recent video, the mechanic revealed how he removes scratches using a $1 product, some soap and water.

The YouTuber recently received a silver BMW sedan back in his shop after a hit-and-run accident.

The luxury car had a significant dent in the front bumper and several paint scratches in the wheel arch area.

Using a “Magic Eraser” micro-grinding tool, the mechanic wiped numerous paint defects from the car.

He put a drop of dishwashing liquid on the sponge and dipped it in water.

The products use microabrasive foam to loosen and bind dirt, grime and stains from surfaces without harsh chemicals.

The eraser’s compounds harden into a glass-like material when wet, improving scrubbing power by dissolving and removing stubborn stains.

The sponge’s melamine foam structure is sturdy yet flexible, effectively removing stains from various materials without the need for much effort.

Mechanic warns: Your car will ‘burn to the ground’ if a car part is not checked – the highest risk is in older vehicles

“It won’t remove everything,” the mechanic warned of the paint problem. “But it might help us in this situation.”

After wiping the BMW’s scratch a few times with the solution, the discolored paint looked like it had been removed.

“Amazing results,” the mechanic said in the video caption.

The eraser tool was sold on Amazon for $1, he reported.

Expert tips to prepare your car for summer

Dustin Piggot, service manager at a Subaru dealership with many years of technical experience, explained to the US Sun in an exclusive interview what drivers should check before rising temperatures:

  1. Get a multi-point inspection. During a paid inspection, a technician will check for leaks or malfunctions in major systems such as brakes, power steering, and front and rear suspension. They will also test the health of the battery and check key fluid levels and conditions.
  2. Cooling system. Before things get hot, drivers need to have their cooling system checked for proper coolant level and condition, evaluate radiator hoses, and have the radiator inspected.
  3. Have your air conditioning system checked. If the freon level is low and needs to be refilled or parts need to be replaced, it’s important to fix the problem before temperatures rise.
  4. Make sure your tires are designed for warmer weather. If you live in a climate that requires special winter tires, replace them with all-season or summer tires if possible to extend the life of winter tires. Winter tires are softer and wear out much faster in warmer weather.
  5. Pay attention to the tread depth. Tires with low tread depth make it harder to stop your car if you need to avoid an accident.
  6. Give your car some love. Before it gets too hot, Piggott says it’s important to give your car a good clean to wash off the winter’s dirt and grime and to give the paint a nice coat of wax to protect it from harsh UV rays and high heat. Many dealerships like his offer detailing and washing services.

Several mechanics have advised drivers to take special precautions during the summer months.

As temperatures rise and passengers turn up the air conditioning, cars become more prone to mechanical problems.

“The heat can really take its toll on vehicles if they are not up to date with maintenance,” Anlleyn Venegas, a representative of the Auto Club of Southern California, told San Diego-based CBS affiliate KFMB.

“We always tell drivers to make sure they check their batteries, tires and fluid levels.”

Venegas also recommended that drivers get a $45 tool kit to ensure they don’t get stranded on the side of the road if their car breaks down.

The kits should contain a flashlight, drinking water and snacks.

Another popular YouTuber, Scotty Kilmer, offers dozens of low-cost car maintenance tips on his channel.

He recommended that drivers spend an extra $25 to ensure their vehicle’s air conditioning does not blow during standard checks.
