Checkers and Rally’s offer $5 menu deals

Add another pair of competitors to the battle for the $5 meal deal that has been steadily gaining momentum all summer.

Checkers and Rally’s, sister restaurant chains with nearly 800 locations across the U.S. (Checkers is primarily in the Southeast, while Rally’s is more of a Midwestern staple), have announced a 5-for-$5 deal to attract customers.

Hungry guests can choose between a classic Cheese Double Burger or a Spicy Chicken Sandwich and enjoy 8 chicken bites, a small portion of seasoned fries, a 16-ounce soft drink and an apple pie for dessert.

The contract runs until September 11, the company said.

The Checkers/Rally announcement came just weeks after White Castle said it would cut its prices to levels not seen since 2011. Jimmy John’s also introduced a menu deal in August, but the price was $10 instead of the usual $5 that most other chains have stuck to.

2024 was the summer of price-cutting at fast-food chains as the companies try to win back customers frustrated by inflationary pressures at the drive-thru. This year saw many claims of “McFlation,” following reports of something like $8 chicken sandwiches and $18 Big Mac meals. (McDonald’s CEO Joe Erlinger addressed this issue last month, releasing a public letter to counter the “viral social media posts and poorly researched reports that McDonald’s has raised prices well above the rate of inflation.”)

McDonald’s has been offering a $5 meal plan at most of its stores nationwide since June and has extended the offer through at least the end of this month. Meanwhile, Wendy’s and Burger King, as well as several other chains, have launched offers of their own.
