LANDIS – Michael Coles scored two goals to lead South Rowan to a 5-3 win over Thomasville in outdoor soccer on Wednesday.

Carloas Landaverde, Jacill Perez-Gutierrez and Sebastian Conejo each scored for the Raiders (1-1), who recovered from a 1-0 loss to Salisbury.

Alan Ballinas-Gutierrez made four saves for South.

South and North Rowan’s home game is scheduled for Monday.

TRINITY – Steven Rivas scored the lone goal as Salisbury won 1-0 at Trinity in a non-league match on Wednesday.

In his first longer appearance as a striker, Rivas scored the decisive goal with an assist from Mohammed Jabateh.

“Same result as Monday (against South Rowan), but different obstacles,” Salisbury coach Matt Parrish said. “We played against a bigger, more physical team on a rough pitch, but we kept our spirits and stayed focused for the most part and learned to deal with adversity and a hostile crowd. David Austin and Hines Busby earned their captain’s armbands tonight by keeping everyone focused on the task at hand.”

Sophomore Kevin Reyes was the man of the match, Parrish said.

“He has the unenviable task of replacing Carlos Henriquez, one of the most underrated and talented players of my time at Salisbury,” Parrish said. “He was solid against South, but he was even better against Trinity. Nothing flashy, just safe and solid. He almost never tries to do too much.”

Parrish announced that Abdul Eliwa, one of last season’s standout players, has left the team to “pursue other interests.”

“None of the games this week were anywhere close to perfect, but despite all the changes, I’m happy with where we are,” Parrish said. “Two wins and two clean sheets is nothing to complain about. I think we need some consistency and hope to get this group up to speed with a few practices.”

Next up for the Hornets is a return to Ludwig Stadium on Monday night to face Northwest Cabarrus at 6 p.m.
