More than 15 fire crews from Bucks and Montgomery respond to heavy smoke at Grand View Hospital

More than 15 fire departments responded to reports of smoke filling three floors of the older part of Grand View Hospital on Lawn Avenue in West Rockhill Township Sunday evening.

There were no injuries and no evacuations. The patients were accommodated on site.

Initial reports from the scene indicated that the source of the smoke was a machine room on the third floor of the building, known as “The Pavilion.” Firefighters requested numerous fans and ventilated the floors.

The emergency call about the fire came in at 8:38 p.m. At 9:15 p.m., the fire department was still unable to locate the source of the fire and other companies were called for help. At 9:22 p.m., three floors were filled with smoke and the hospital director was on site.

Firefighters reportedly located the source of the fire in a third-floor machine room, possibly in the insulation of a pipe, at 9:42 p.m.

By 10 p.m., firefighters were already busy fighting the fire at the scene of the accident.

Montgomery County fire departments assisting at the scene included the Colmar Fire Co., Montgomery Township Fire Department, Perseverance Fire Co. of Souderton, Hatfield Vol. Fire Co., Telford Fire Co., Tylersport Fire Co., East Greenville Fire Co. and Red Hill Fire Co.
