Every Monday, the Beaver County Times recognizes both individual athletes and teams for their impressive performances during the final week of high school sports. Here are the standouts from the week of August 18-24.

Boys Golf
Jordan Keller, Ellwood City
Keller continued his dominant performance for the Wolverines last week after failing to score over 35 points in three games last week. On Monday, Keller scored 33 points in the team’s 199-220 win over Riverside, which was his season low. Following the win over the Panthers, Keller scored 35 points in the team’s 208-237 win over Neshannock before scoring another 35 points in the team’s win over Mohawk on Thursday.
Nate Kennedy, Elmwood City
Kennedy also shined in the team’s strong start to the season, shooting a 39 in the Wolverines’ win over Riverside to open the week. After Monday’s game, he did the same on Tuesday in the team’s win over Neshannock. Then on Thursday, Kennedy closed the week with a 44 in the team’s narrow 211-217 win over Mohawk, helping improve Ellwood City’s perfect record in sectional play to 7-0 and 5-0.
Liam Baker, Ambridge
In the Bridgers’ two matches last week, Baker was a game-changing force, scoring 41 points, the team’s lowest total, in the team’s narrow 219-217 loss to North Hills. After the loss, the Bridgers rebounded, and a big reason for that turnaround was Baker’s play, scoring 38 points in the team’s win over Highlands.
Joe Friedman, Blackhawk
Friedman had a successful week on the golf course, as he scored 40 points or fewer in his team’s two games last week. On Tuesday, Friedman scored 40 points in his team’s 214-201 loss to Moon Area. On Thursday, Friedman scored 38 points, which was his team’s lowest total, in his team’s 212-192 loss to Montour.
Max Haag, Moon Region
Haag impressed in the Tigers’ two games for Moon Area last week. On Tuesday, Haag scored 37 points in Moon Area’s 201-214 win over Blackhawk, which was his team’s lowest total. On Thursday, the team lost a close 202-195 to West Allegheny, with Haag scoring 38 points.
Chris Brown, Moon Area
Brown also had a solid week on the links for Moon Area, as he posted two scores of 40 or less in the Tigers’ two games this week. On Tuesday, Brown posted a 40 in his team’s win over Blackhawk. He followed that score by posting a team-low 36 in Moon Area’s loss to West Allegheny on Thursday.
Nico Ward, West Allegheny
Ward scored a team-low 34 points in his team’s 195-202 win over Moon Area on Thursday afternoon.
RJ Fischer, South Side Area
Fischer scored 34 points, his team’s lowest total, in the Rams’ only game this week as South Side Area defeated New Brighton 225-255 over the Lions on Tuesday.
Braeden Mitchell, South Side
Mitchell also delivered an impressive performance for the Rams against the Lions, scoring 37 points in his team’s win over New Brighton.
Girls Golf
Savanna style
Stile scored 40 points, the lowest score on his team, in his team’s narrow 180-176 loss to North Allegheny on Monday.
Angelina Schild, Moon Region
Schild delivered an impressive performance in Moon Area’s only game of the week, scoring a team-low 38 points in the team’s 175-188 win over Bethel Park, improving the Tigers’ record to 4-1 on the season.
Liv DeGori, Moon Region
In addition to Schild’s performance, DeGori also played a key role in the Tigers’ only game of the week, as the sophomore scored the team’s second-lowest 42 points in the win over the Blackhawks.
Emma Mrkonja, Central Valley
After shooting a 46 in the team’s 217-225 win over Beaver on Tuesday, Mrkonja shot a 40 on Wednesday to help the Warriors beat Ellwood City 202-225. After Wednesday’s game, Mrkonja shot a 42 in the team’s close 202-195 loss to Seton LaSalle, which was the team’s lowest mark.
Girls tennis
Avery Allen, Quaker Valley
Allan got her first season for Quaker Valley off to an electrifying start, defeating both of her opponents in straight sets and doing so in dominating fashion. On Monday, the freshman defeated Baldwin’s Julia Johnson 6-0, 6-0 in the Quakers’ 5-0 victory over the Highlanders. Then on Wednesday, Allan won her match again in straight sets (6-1, 6-0) in the team’s 4-1 victory over the Talbots.
Jay Olawaiye, Quaker Valley
Olawaiye started her final season strong when she defeated Cayleigh Fitzurka of Baldwin in straight sets to give her team the win over Baldwin. She did the same on Wednesday when she defeated Arianna Barbera of Hampton 6-1, 6-1 to defeat the Talbots.
Girls’ soccer
Sydney Chontos, Beaver area
Chontos impressed in his team’s win over Blackhawk on Friday night, as the senior scored a hat trick in the Bobcats’ 7-0 victory over Blackhawk.
Megan Conover, Ambridge
Conover impressed the Bridgers in their first game of the season on Saturday, scoring three goals that made the difference as Ambridge defeated Riverside 5-4.
