Kolkata rape and murder case | Video shows girl dancing in front of posters demanding justice; Congress-Supriya shrine taunts BJP

In an interview with X, Congress MP Supriya Shrinate once again took a dig at the BJP, referring to the party’s protests against the rape and murder case at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

She shared a video of a girl dancing on a platform amid protests against the rape and murder case of a doctor in West Bengal.

Shrinate wrote: “Is this really a protest by the BJP demanding justice in the RG Kar case?”

The Congress leader had on Friday claimed that her party had “far higher” engagement rates compared to its rival, the BJP, and that social media had helped her party connect with people as the mainstream media “ignores” the grand old party.

Out of respect for India’s diversity, the party has created content in as many regional languages as possible, said Shrinate, the Congress’s head of social media and digital platforms.

In a tug-of-war with Bollywood actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut over remarks made against her and Mandi, Shrinate had earlier issued a clarification on a post about Ranaut made from her Instagram account.

In a video posted by Shrinate, she said, “Many people have access to my Facebook and Instagram accounts. One of them made a highly inappropriate post today. When I came to know about it, I immediately deleted the post.”

She added: “Anyone who knows me also knows that I would never make personal and indecent comments towards a woman. I wanted to know how this happened.”

In the video, Shrinate claimed that an X-parody account named after her was the first to post a photo of the actor with an offensive caption, which was later posted from her account by someone who had access to it.

In her reply to Shrinate, Ranaut had said, “Every woman, irrespective of her background and profession, deserves dignity.”

“No matter what profession a woman pursues, be it a teacher, actress, journalist, politician or sex worker, they all deserve dignity. I am particularly pained by the unfortunate comments about Mandi… All of us who come from Mandi have been hurt by these comments,” Ranaut said.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) also intervened in the matter and wrote to the Election Commission (EC) demanding strict action against Shrinate for her comments against Ranaut.
