Patna: Doctors in East Champaran district of Bihar have removed several metal objects, including a key ring, a small knife and nail clippers, from the stomach of a teenager.

The 22-year-old man was taken to a private hospital in Motihari, the district capital, by his family a few days ago after he complained of severe stomach pain.

An operation to remove the items was performed on Sunday.

Dr Amit Kumar, who led the team of doctors that performed the operation, said, “The youth was undergoing psychiatric treatment. X-rays revealed that there were metal objects in his stomach.” During the operation, a key ring was first removed.

“Later, we recovered two keys, a ten-centimeter-long knife and two nail clippers from his stomach. When we asked the youth, he said he had recently started swallowing metal objects. Now the youth is fine and his condition is improving,” the doctor said.

The teenager suffers from mental problems and has to take medication for it, he said.

The patient will be discharged from the hospital soon, he added.
