Scottie Scheffler headlines the team that automatically qualifies for the US Presidents Cup
The automatic qualification phase for the US and international teams in the Presidents Cup ended on Sunday afternoon with the BMW Championship.
The top six golfers from each team in the FedEx Cup rankings or the Official World Golf Ranking were automatically added to their respective teams. After next weekend’s Tour Championship, the two captains will select their six players to complete the 12 golfers who will compete at Royal Montreal.
Scottie Scheffler is the headliner on the U.S. side based on FedEx Cup points, another item on an incredible list of accomplishments for Scheffler in 2024. He won six times on tour, including the Masters, and took gold for the U.S. at the Olympics

Behind Scheffler on the US side is Xander Schauffele, who won the PGA Championship and the British Open this season. Schauffele went from being a tour member who never managed to win a major to being a two-time major championship winner.
Collin Morikawa, Wyndham Clark, Patrick Cantlay and Sahith Theegala were the other four automatic qualifiers for the US
At international level, Hideki Matsuyama led the way. Other golfers who automatically qualified were Tom Kim, Sungjae Im, Ben An, Jason Day and Adam Scott.
Team captains Jim Furyk and Mike Weird will announce their selections on September 3. The Presidents Cup begins on September 26 at the Royal Montreal Golf Club in Quebec, Canada. The U.S. team has won the last nine events.
