The 2024 Leagues Cup final will see Columbus Crew and LAFC meet in a rematch of last year’s MLS Cup. The two teams play an exciting but beautifully contrasting style of play that ensures plenty of excitement at every meeting.

This time the man in the middle Oshane Nationa CONCACAF referee with considerable experience in this competition. Nation was born in Jamaica in 1991, making him 33 years old. Despite his relatively young age, he has already gained a lot of experience and has already refereed three matches in this year’s Leagues Cup.

The Jamaican referee is a recent addition to the Crew, which hosts Sunday’s final. Nation was also at Lower.com Field in April when the Crew claimed a famous CONCACAF Champions Cup victory over Liga MX giants Monterrey.

Oshane Nations record in CONCACAF

He is now in his fifth season refereeing in the Champions Cup/Champions League. Before the semifinal between the Crew and Monterrey, Nation officiated the Rayados’ 3-0 first leg win over Dominican side Atlético Pantoja in the 2021 round of 16 – a season in which the Mexicans won their last CONCACAF title. In the meantime, Nation also took charge of a previous Crew gamewhen he refereed the Americans’ 1-1 draw with fellow countrymen Houston Dynamo in the second leg of their round of 16 match.

In the final of the CONCACAF League 2021 – a now-defunct second-tier club competition – he refereed the first leg of Guatemalan team Comunicaciones’ 6-3 aggregate victory over Honduran team Motagua. That same year, he was also named for Columbus’ 2-1 victory over Cruz Azul in the Campeones Cup, a trophy contested by the winners of MLS and the Mexican Super Cup, the Campeón de Campeones.

At international level Nation was awarded the semi-finals of the 2021 CONCACAF Nations Leaguein which the eventual tournament winners USMNT defeated Honduras 1-0. He is a recognized CONCACAF official and has refereed important matches for the senior national team on numerous occasions.
