Communities in Arlington Ridge and Legacy are affected by the shutdown of irrigation water

The Leesburg Reuse Water System will be shut down August 27-31 for Phase II of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion.

Due to ongoing upgrades at the Leesburg Turnpike Wastewater Treatment Plant, the treatment system that produces reusable water for irrigation in the Arlington Ridge and Legacy communities is expected to be out of service for five days. Reclaimed water will not be available from August 27 through August 31 while the pump station is offline. As an abundance of caution, affected customers are asked to turn off irrigation systems during this time.

In 2020, a two-phase project to improve and expand the wastewater treatment plant began. Phase I increased the plant’s capacity from 3.0 million gallons per day (MGD) to 4.5 MGD and improved infrastructure. This phase was completed in 2022.

Phase II is currently underway and has reached a point where the contractor must drill a 20-inch pipe through the side walls of the system’s detention basin. Completing this work will require lowering the water level in the basin below the intrusion entry point and shutting down the reuse pumping station. Once this phase is completed, the plant capacity will be increased from 4.5 MGD to 6.0 MGD, odor control measures will be implemented, and plant support equipment will be upgraded.

To accommodate the growth and development of the city, especially in southern Leesburg, an increase in plant capacity is necessary.

Closure dates are subject to change due to weather-related issues. Information and updates will be posted on the City of Leesburg Facebook page and website (www.leesburgflorida.gov) as needed. If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact Al Purvis, City of Leesburg Water Department, at 352-728-9835.
