DAYTON, Ohio (WHIO/CNN Newsource/WKRC) – A 12-year-old girl was shot dead in her bed while she was sleeping after two armed men fired rifles into her home, according to police.

12-year-old Isabella Amor-Carlos was shot in her bed while she was sleeping on Friday morning.

Dayton police said WHIO that the girl’s home, where she lived with her father, was probably not the target of the shooting. They also said they believe two armed men with rifles stood across the street and fired at three homes, including Isabella’s. One of the neighboring homes had at least a dozen bullet holes.

Isabella’s father, Michael Nooks, is horrified by the seemingly random act of violence. He was awakened in the middle of the night by gunshots and went to his daughter’s room, where he found her shot dead.

“People are shooting indiscriminately and I don’t understand it,” Nooks told WHIO. “You killed my 12-year-old baby.”

“I don’t understand. I just don’t understand, and that’s all, that’s the story,” he said. “Suddenly three bullets ripped through her room, and now she’s gone.”

David Lawrence of Dayton Public Schools, the school district Isabella attended her entire life, said, “This student was an important member of the Charity Adams community and will be greatly missed by both staff and students.”

It is an irreversible tragedy for which there seems to be no explanation.

“I don’t cause any problems,” Nooks said. “My children don’t cause any problems. My daughter doesn’t cause any problems, so this is pointless. It is completely, utterly pointless.”
