Tesla adds SiriusXM streaming in upcoming software update

Tesla is preparing to add a dedicated streaming app for SiriusXM in a future software update, according to a post from the satellite radio company that was removed shortly after publication.

As discovered over the weekend by No Tesla appSiriusXM confirmed on its Canadian website that its streaming app would soon be available in Tesla vehicles, although the post was quickly deleted after the news surfaced. The blog post also detailed how to get a free trial of the app, even though most Teslas don’t have satellite radio equipment.

In addition to SiriusXM’s satellite radio, the company also operates the non-satellite streaming service, which currently does not have an app in Tesla’s vehicles. While Model S and X have satellite radio receivers and can use the company’s satellite radio, the launch of an app for the company’s streaming channels will also give Model 3, Model Y and Cybertruck owners the ability to tune in.

No Tesla app also points out that the free trial mentioned above was for the SiriusXM 360L package, which includes several live sports channels, on-demand broadcasts, and streaming channels. Additionally, like Tesla’s other music and streaming app offerings, the streaming channel would require a Premium Connectivity subscription.

Normally, SiriusXM 360L costs $21.99 per month with the All Access package, or $16.99 for the smaller Select package, but the publication also notes that the now-removed blog post suggested Tesla vehicles would likely require the $28.80/month Platinum package, which includes bonus features like the ability to stream from other devices like computers, smartphones, tablets, and more.

In any case, the SiriusXM app is expected to debut with a free one-month trial with everything included in the Platinum package.

Tesla began offering free three-month trials of the SiriusXM satellite service, which offers over 150 satellite channels, for Model S and Model X vehicles in 2020. Even then, it was suggested that Tesla had been working on adding SiriusXM features for some time, and the launch suggested that the company would soon expand its in-flight entertainment options to its entire lineup.
