During an appearance on the company’s Eat, Sleep, Repeat podcast, the current world champion explained that if he manages to defeat Danielson this Sunday at Wembley Stadium, his opponent’s legacy would be his, a legacy he considers just as important as the title he currently holds. He said: “That means his legacy is mine. To me, that’s as big as the world championship in some ways. Someone who has accomplished everything there is to accomplish in this industry. Since 2001, this man has been one of the pioneers of the style of wrestling that we see all over television. This guy has been the foundation of independent wrestling, international styles and in-ring technicians since 2000.”
He added: “This next generation is shaped by this man. A lot of us have studied his tapes. As far as I personally, it’s another wrestler that put the Pacific Northwest and Washington State on the map. When I was growing up, I thought, ‘We’re so honored to have someone from Washington involved in wrestling.’ That was Bryan Danielson. Now I want that to be Swerve Strickland. ‘Bryan Danielson, yeah, he was great. Swerve Strickland took it to a new level.’ We’ll see who comes out on top and if Danielson is finally forced to retire. What do you think? Who could win the match? Let us know in the comments.
