SCOTLAND, 25 August 2024 – Following the conclusion of the 2024 AIG Women’s Open, the eight players who automatically qualify for the 2024 European Solheim Cup Team will be determined.

Englishman Charley Hull led the LET Solheim Cup points list with 203.50 points after achieving seven top-five finishes on the LET in 2023 and 2024.

Hull, who made her Solheim Cup debut in 2013, is taking part in the prestigious event for the seventh time and has won 13.5 points in her 22 matches.

Second place in the overall ranking went to German Esther Henseleit, who is the sixth German player to compete for Europe and is making her debut in the competition.

Henseleit collected 179.82 points in the qualification phase and catapulted herself into the automatic qualification place after her second place at the ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish Open.

“I’m thrilled to be part of the European Solheim Cup team this year,” said Henseleit. “It’s been my dream since I was a kid to play in the Solheim Cup and to qualify for the team is a dream come true.”

“I’m so excited. It’s been a great summer for me and I can’t wait to play for Europe at the Solheim Cup in September.”

Six players have qualified for Team Europe via the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings, most notably Frenchwoman Céline Boutier.

For Boutier, this is her fourth consecutive Solheim Cup after making her debut at Gleneagles in 2019.

Swedish duo Maja Stark and Linn Grant are each taking part in the competition for the second time, having debuted at Finca Cortesin in 2023.

Stark commented: “I’m really excited about the Solheim Cup, it’s my first in America. I’m looking forward to seeing how different it is and seeing a few but mighty European fans who will hopefully be very loud. Plus the course is great so it will be fun.”

“I’m very proud and it’s going to be a lot of fun,” said Grant. “I’m looking forward to playing in the US. It’s going to be very different.”

“A bigger stage with more people – I expect a lot of booing, but it will be fun! I hope I succeed, I definitely see it as a challenge. I’m looking forward to some nice team moments and a fun week.”

Ireland’s Leona Maguire will compete for the third time in a row after winning 7.5 points in the ten games she has played.

For Spaniard Carlota Ciganda, meanwhile, it is her seventh consecutive appearance, having sunk the putt in 2023 to secure the trophy for Europe.

The last player to qualify via the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings is Sweden’s Madelene Sagström.

For Sagström, who made her Solheim Cup debut in 2017, it will also be her fourth appearance and her third appearance on American soil.

“It means a lot to me to play in the Solheim Cup and it is always a great honor to be entrusted with this role again,” said Sagström.

“I’ve played on American soil a few times now. It’s always a challenge, but it’s a lot of fun. A lot of people are very passionate about the game. We were able to see the golf course earlier this year and it was just beautiful. I think it will suit a lot of our games.”

“It’s a great honour to represent Europe. I feel very comfortable with my game and that I’ve played very well this year. I’m happy to have one of the places.”

Captain Suzann Pettersen said of her team: “The European team is looking great right now for the 2024 Solheim Cup. Congratulations to the eight players who have automatically qualified.

“We have so much experience on the team, but it’s also great that Esther is making her Solheim Cup debut this year. The European players have performed great this year and we’re looking forward to September.”

Pettersen will finalise her team and announce her four captain candidates at 4pm (BST) on Monday 26 August. The broadcast will be broadcast live on Sky Sports News and streamed here on the LET website.
