Oxygen Channel will air a two-part special of “The Girl on the Milk Carton” on Sunday, August 25th at 7 p.m. The special is based on a murder case that occurred over thirty years ago: the disappearance of 12-year-old Jonelle Matthews in Greeley, Colorado.

Twelve-year-old Jonelle Matthews was one of the children pictured on milk cartons after she disappeared from her parents’ home in Greeley, Colorado, five days before Christmas 1984. The case remained unsolved for many years until new evidence from an unexpected source helped solve it. The special features interviews with family members, the longtime investigators and the key witness who helped solve the case.

The first episode, “A devastating disappearance” deals with the disappearance of Matthews in 1984 in Greeley, Colorado. The case quickly attracted national attention through a milk carton campaign and the involvement of the FBI.

The second episode, “A Monster Revealed” begins at 8 p.m. and examines how newly discovered evidence led to the exposure and trial of Jonelle’s killer 35 years later.
