We stand for diplomacy, but not at the expense of 30 percent of the territory

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that he would like to see certain diplomatic steps taken, but that this should not happen at the expense of 30 percent of Ukraine’s territory and population.

Zelensky said this in an interview with Indian media representatives, Ukrinform reports.

“I believe that our approach, when we talk about our steps both on the battlefield and in diplomatic terms, is closer to peace than any other proposal. Because this path is very complicated, and all the proposals that exist and that you have heard from many countries… I believe that everything that is being said today are political statements. This is not a path, and these are not formulas or details,” he stressed.

The head of state said that there are different statements from different experts, including from different countries, about the end of the war, but none of them has a plan.

“When someone talks about a diplomatic solution, I always support it. We all want that none of our soldiers, none of our people will be killed tomorrow. We want that. But you can’t negotiate with a madman (like: ‘Listen, sit down. Yes, we understand that you have already killed 30 people, in particular. But let’s talk. Don’t do it again’? It doesn’t work like that. It doesn’t work with this man (Vladimir Putin),” Zelensky said.

The Ukrainian president added that Putin was not afraid of political pressure.

Regarding diplomacy, he said he would like to take certain steps, but this should not be done at the expense of 30 percent of Ukraine’s territory and population. “If there is such a plan, we are fully in favor of it,” Zelensky stressed.

As reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that an end to the war is possible only if Ukraine’s territorial integrity is restored.
