Taiwanese breakdancer wins Outbreak Europe 2024

Taiwanese breakdancer Sun Chen (孫振) won Outbreak Europe 2024 in Slovakia yesterday.

Chen, known as B-Boy Quake, took first place in the competition, which included 500 B-Boys.

In the finals, Quake defeated B-Boy Raptor from Ukraine to take the crown after pulling out all the stops to fulfill his own “childhood dream”.

Speaking to the press after his win, Quake said that it was not his first appearance at the festival.

He said he debuted in the competition in 2019 and made it to the quarterfinals through “pure luck”, where he was eliminated by his idol, Venezuelan b-boy Lil G.

Quake said he has been working toward winning the annual Outbreak Europe since his loss in 2019.

Sun has set many milestones in breakdancing for Taiwan for the year 2024.

The 24-year-old represented Taiwan in the first-ever groundbreaking Olympic event in Paris earlier this month before becoming the first Taiwanese to reach the final at the Notorious IBE, a major hip-hop dance gathering in the Netherlands.

Although he failed to make it to the quarterfinals in Paris, he finished second at Notorious IBE before winning Outbreak Europe on Sunday.

Next, he will take part in the World Battle, which will take place in Portugal from August 28 to September 1.
