10-Team Mock Draft: Marvin Harrison Jr. ends up way too far back in the draft lists

It’s never too early to start preparing to win your fantasy football league, and that’s exactly what we’ll be aiming to do today. Using the DraftHero mock draft simulator app on 4for4, I ran a 10-team mock draft to get a rough idea of player values and the types of macro-level strategies we can expect ahead of the NFL season.

Today we’re using ESPN’s scoring settings with a single quarterback and PPR scoring. The full 2024 Fantasy Football Mock Draft Board is included at the end of the article, showing players like Bijan Robinson (RB) of the Atlanta Falcons, Puka Nacua (WR) of the Los Angeles Rams, and CeeDee Lamb (WR) of the Dallas Cowboys heading into the start of this 10-team mock draft.

We will start by incorporating both PK and D/ST into this mock to give a good idea of what a full team will look like in 10-team mock drafts.

Roster settings: 1QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1 TE, 1 FLEX, 1 D/ST, 1K and 5 reserve spots

10-Team Mock Draft: Rounds 1-4

Longest reach: Travis Kelce, TE, Kansas City Chiefs (Round 2, Pick 8)

Travis Kelce finished the year as the TE2, but it was a down year by his standards. His 984 yards were his fewest since 2015 and a far cry from his 1,230 yards per season average from 2016-2022. His 11.5 yards per game average (half PPR) was a pretty significant drop from 2022 (15.9) and 2021 (13.7). Both his yards per reception (10.6) and yards per target (8.1) were career lows.

I think it’s safe to say the soon-to-be 35-year-old’s days as an elite player are behind him, even if he still delivers high-caliber TE1 performance in the Chiefs’ high-powered offense.

Biggest drop: Marvin Harrison Jr., WR, Arizona Cardinals (Round 3, Pick 1)

With Marquise Brown and Rondale Moore gone, the Cardinals have the fifth-most vacated targets (217) and Harrison will absorb most of them. He lands in a fantastic situation from an opportunity and quarterback perspective and will immediately be in the fantasy WR2 mix with upside.

Matt Harmon compared Harrison’s profile to that of Ja’Marr Chase out of college, adding that Harrison is “by far one of the most promising prospects” he has recorded on the Reception Perception list.

10-Team Mock Draft: Rounds 5-8

Findings

The quarterback position has been moved way up from previous years. In standard and half-PPR fantasy football leagues, the majority of top 12 options are in that range and are basically done in the double-digit rounds. A huge difference from recent history. Josh Allen starts as early as round 3 and the 12 teams usually have all their QBs by the time we get past those middle rounds.

For all of these options to come to fruition, the 2024 NFL season will have to be incredibly top-heavy. Once we’re talking in the range of 1-2 fantasy points per game separating entire groups of players, we might want to focus on the RBs and WRs while other fantasy managers struggle during a bunch of QBs.

10-Team Mock Draft: Rounds 9-11

Longest reach: Najee Harris, RB, Pittsburgh Steelers (Round 9, Pick 5)

Despite having only the 15th-most touches (253 through Week 17), Najee Harris finished 26th on the RB list, two spots behind his more efficient teammate Jaylen Warren.

Warren’s touches increased from 10.6 to 13.9 when comparing the first half of the season to the second. This increased workload may or may not continue now that there is a new offensive coordinator (Arthur Smith) in town. Smith is known for using his players in frustrating ways from a fantasy perspective. Interestingly, Warren’s increased use did not come at the expense of Harris.

Harris increased his touches from 14.4 to 18.8 from the first half of the season to the second half. (Harris/Warren combined averaged 25.0 touches from Week 1 to Week 8 compared to 32.7 touches from Week 9 to Week 18. Pittsburgh was much more running back-focused in the second half of the season.) The Steelers are expected to be very run-heavy under Smith, so there should be room for both Harris and Warren in 15+ touches roles.

10-Team Mock Draft: Rounds 12-14

Findings

Depending on your league’s settings, you either have to leave your draft with a kicker and a defense, or not. I decided to enforce this rule in this draft to have a better idea of what a full team will look like in a 10-team mock draft. If your league forces you to leave the draft with both, I would prefer to select my D/ST and kicker in the final two rounds. Some of my favorite D/ST picks at cost so far have been the San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Chargers, New York Giants, Los Angeles Rams, and Kansas City Chiefs.

Biggest drop: Tyjae Spears, RB, Tennessee Titans (Round 12, Pick 7)

Tyjae Spears had a very impressive rookie season, gaining nearly 850 yards from scrimmage and catching 52 passes. And he did all this while Derrick Henry was still in the starting lineup. Spears had seven games with at least five targets. There’s no reason to believe his involvement in the passing game will wane anytime soon.
