The type of liquid you get from a water pump (extractor) depends on where you place it. If you place it over a piece of black soil in the Blackheart or Red Sands regionsyou get crude oil. If you place it over soil or sand in an area polluted with stardustyou get polluted water.

A good place to get polluted water is the Refinery Pollution Point in Once humanwhich is located south of Greywater Camp in the Iron River region. You’ll know if the ground you’re standing on is dirty when your pack starts ticking.
