Alex Albon’s eighth place in danger as legality of Williams car is questioned

Alex Albon is likely to lose his P8 qualifying spot at Zandvoort after the FIA found that the underbody of his car was in breach of regulations.

The Williams driver delivered an impressive top-10 finish, but his hard work will almost certainly be for naught as the FIA technical delegate hands his car over to race control.

Alex Albon faces disqualification for the Dutch Grand Prix

During the post-qualifying inspections, FIA Formula 1 Technical Delegate Jo Bauer found that Albon’s car complied with Article 3.5.1 a) of the Technical Regulations.

This particular law relates to the floor and states that the floor body must be “within RV-FLOOR-BODY”, where RV stands for the regulatory volume.

Albon and a representative of the Williams team were summoned to a meeting with the race stewards at 6.30pm track time.

Bauer’s assessment: “After qualifying, the aerodynamic parts and body areas of car number 23 were checked.

‘The soil body was outside the standard volume referred to in Article 3.5.1 a).

“I refer this matter to the stewards for review.”

It is the second time in as many races that a car’s eligibility has been called into question. George Russell had to accept his victory in Belgium after it was discovered that his car was too light.
