Motorcyclist is thrown from car and dies after being hit by SUV in North Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (FOX5) – A motorcyclist was killed Wednesday night in North Las Vegas after colliding with an SUV, police said.

The North Las Vegas Police Department responded to the crash at the intersection of West Carey Avenue and North Martin Luther King Boulevard at approximately 8:58 p.m. Arriving officers determined that the crash involved an “unregistered homemade motorcycle” and a Ford Focus.

The motorcycle ran a red light in a marked crosswalk and was traveling east on Carey Avenue while crossing Martin Luther King Boulevard. At the same time, a Ford Focus was traveling north on MLK on a green light and struck the motorcycle.

The driver of the motorcycle, an unknown man probably in his thirties, was thrown out and seriously injured, according to police.

Medical personnel arrived at the scene but later confirmed that the driver had died at the scene.

The first crash also resulted in three separate car collisions as traffic came to a halt in the northbound lanes of MLK. No injuries were reported in those crashes, police said.

The accident is still being investigated. However, police believe that vehicle impairment was not a factor.

Anyone with information about this accident is asked to call North Las Vegas Police at 702-633-9111. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers by calling 702-385-5555 or online at www.crimestoppersofnv.com.
