A cyclist died in Irvine a few weeks after a car accident.

The accident occurred around 1:20 p.m. on August 1 when police and paramedics were called to MacArthur Boulevard on Freeway 405 for a traffic accident, according to Irvine police.

When they arrived, they found the victim, 61-year-old Scott Andrew Morris, who suffered a moderate head injury after a collision with a passing vehicle.

He was taken by Orange County Fire Department paramedics to a nearby hospital, where he remained until his death on Thursday.

“Based on the preliminary investigation at the time of the collision, Morris was driving his Beach Cruiser northbound on MacArthur in the number one right-turn lane of the I-405 on-ramp when he suddenly turned left and struck a Chevrolet Suburban traveling in the lane adjacent to him,” the IPD statement said.

Morris’ handlebars struck the SUV’s front door and mirror, causing him to be thrown from his bike and land on the road.

According to police, he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

The driver of the Suburban remained at the scene of the accident and cooperated with the police investigation.

Anyone with further information is asked to contact the Criminal Investigation Department at (949) 724-7024.
