Actions to be followed:

  • Make a Sankalpa (promise): Commit yourself to observe the fast with full devotion to Lord Krishna and make sure you follow all the rules to the letter. Chant Lord Krishna’s name while doing so.
  • Meal before fasting: Eat a light meal such as fruit or fresh juice before fasting to aid digestion and provide energy during the day.
  • Charity: Giving food and clothing to the needy reflects the mercy of Lord Krishna and promotes happiness and prosperity.
  • Only Satvik Bhojan: Eat only pure vegetarian food. Avoid garlic, onions, meat and alcohol on this auspicious day.

  • Skip tea and coffee: Avoid tea and coffee while fasting as these can increase acidity and cause discomfort. Opt for coconut water or fresh juices instead.
  • Respect all living beings: Treat all living beings kindly, especially on Janmashtami. Feed animals and give water to birds to honor Lord Krishna’s love for all living beings, especially cows.

  • Create a positive environment: Create a peaceful and joyful atmosphere in your home during the puja. Fasting people should be especially kind to the elderly and avoid negative energy.
