KZN high school students attract attention at international dance competition

The talented dancers of Eshowe High School showcased South Africa’s incredible dancing talent at the UDO World Championships.

Durban, KwaZulu-Natal (August 25, 2024) – If there is one thing South Africans excel at, it is dancing! Whether it is a formal event, a casual gathering or just a spontaneous burst of movement, the Mzansi have a natural rhythm that is hard to resist. Our ability to captivate an audience with our dance moves is simply legendary.

Evidence of this was recently provided by the talented dancers of Eshowe High School in a small rural town in KZN, who brought enormous pride to their school and their country.

Following their successful participation in the Dance Sports School Leagues competitions, Amukelwa Xulu and Sifundo Mpungose performed best in the provincial competitions, made it to the national all-star team and went on to represent South Africa at the UDO World Championships in Blackpool, where they demonstrated their exceptional skill and determination on the world stage.

According to the school, both Sifundo and Amukelwa also attended a graduation ceremony in Durban where they were honored for their achievements.

On August 12th, they took to the skies and competed on the world stage, showing off their incredible moves and agility. The duo made it to the semi-finals and Amukelwa also made it to the semi-finals thanks to his stirring solo performance.

On Tuesday 20 August, they returned to South African soil where they were warmly welcomed by their coach and dance team.

“We congratulate Amukelwa and the entire South African team on their outstanding achievements and successes. They have brought great credit to Eshowe High School, the Eshowe community and South Africa as a whole,” the school said.
