Young Sheldon Spoilers follow.

In the last season of “Young Sheldon,” some of the lore of the series “The Big Bang Theory” was fundamentally changed.

Fans of the series “The Big Bang Theory” know that Sheldon Cooper always knocks on a door three times before entering a room.

In season 10 of the sitcom, Sheldon gave an explanation for why he does this by recounting a traumatic moment from his childhood.

In the episode “The Hot Tub Contamination”, Sheldon reveals to Penny that he caught his father in bed with another woman when he was 13.

Sheldon explains that the first two knocks are common and the third is to give the person time to “put their pants on.”

But in the latest episode of the prequel series, it was revealed that things were not quite as they seemed.

Instead of catching his father George in bed with another woman, Sheldon caught his parents role-playing, with his mother wearing a blonde wig.

But while this part of Sheldon and his father’s story was being rewritten, Steve Holland, executive producer of “Young Sheldon,” previously confirmed that George will die in the final season.

Speaking to TVLine earlier this month, Holland said, “I don’t want to say what you will and won’t see, but things will be addressed.”

“We don’t feel a commitment to every joke ever made on The Big Bang Theory, but we feel a commitment to the larger canon and the larger events that shape Sheldon’s life. We want to honor those.”

Holland insisted that this continuity must be maintained in the spin-off, although some fans argued that George did not need to meet an early end.

“This is what happens in Sheldon’s life. This is the same character (from Big Bang),” he said.

“We live in the same universe as the Big Bang and this kind of world-building is important. Big things that (said adult Sheldon) have happened in his life have happened without a doubt.”

“Young Sheldon” airs on CBS in the US and on E4 in the UK.
