The race for the Cup Series playoffs becomes more exciting with the green flag in Daytona

All eyes will be on Daytona International Speedway Saturday night as drivers take to the hallowed ground for the penultimate race of the NASCAR Cup Series regular season.

In addition to the hunt for the coveted championship in the regular season, the race for the last places in the playoff of the 16 drivers is even more important.

Currently, Martin Truex Jr., Ty Gibbs, Chris Buescher and Ross Chastain are the drivers without playoff-deciding victories and occupy the last four spots – a few of which are still within reach.

One of those drivers who is right in the middle of it all is Bubba Wallace and the No. 23 Toyota team. They enter Saturday’s race just one point below the cut line.

“The conversations about whether we’re one point behind or right at the cutline sound more stressful than we think,” Wallace told News 5’s Heather Williams. “We know if we go out there and execute the things we’re supposed to do, the cards will fall into place the way they’re supposed to.”

In the battle for the regular season crown, Tyler Reddick secured his second win of the season last weekend in a rain-postponed race in Michigan and also took the lead in the NASCAR Cup Series points standings for the first time in his career.

With just two races left in the regular season, Reddick sits in second place, 10 points ahead of Chase Elliott, after previous leader Kyle Larson dropped to fourth in the standings last week.

The green flag for the Coke Zero Sugar 400 falls at 7:30 p.m.
