Jenna Ortega reveals she contracted Covid-19 while filming the dance scene on Wednesday

Jenna Ortega revealed that she was able to film her viral dance scene on Wednesday despite her Covid-19 symptoms.

In one of the most memorable scenes in the new Netflix series, Jenna’s character Wednesday Addams performs bizarre moves to “Goo Goo Muck” from “The Cramps” at a school dance.

The “Scream” actress revealed in a recent interview with NME that she performed the self-choreographed dance while suffering from Covid-19 symptoms.

“I’m not a dancer and I’m sure that’s obvious. I had gotten the song about a week before and I just took whatever I could… it’s crazy because it was my first day with COVID, so it was horrible to film,” she said.

“I woke up and – it’s weird, I never get sick and when I do it’s not very bad – I had body aches. I felt like I’d been hit by a car and like a little goblin had been let down my throat and was scratching the walls of my esophagus. They gave me medication between shots because we were waiting for the positive result.”

The actress and the “Wednesday” crew have come under criticism online for filming the scene when she was likely infected with the contagious coronavirus.

Representatives from MGM, the production company behind Wednesday, told NME via email that “strict COVID protocols were followed and production removed Jenna from set once the positive test was confirmed.”

After recovering from Covid-19, the 20-year-old asked if she could repeat the scene, but they didn’t have time.
