A crazed 39-year-old woman claiming to be from the Russian police allegedly attempted to kidnap an 8-year-old girl before the child was rescued by her neighbor – who is like an “uncle” to the little one.

The suspected child abductor, identified as Courtney Perrone, approached the girl Wednesday afternoon as she was helping her neighbor load some animals into his car, local station ABC7 News reported.

Perrone ran to the vehicle parked south of Maple Street in Santa Monica, put her arms around the child and shouted, “That’s my daughter, that’s my daughter.”

A tug-of-war ensued between the neighbor and Perrone, and at one point the perpetrator held a switchblade in his face before fleeing the scene.

Shortly thereafter, she was found by police in the parking lot of Gelson’s, a local grocery store. Witnesses told police she was the person who attempted to kidnap the child.

According to police, Perrone was homeless and apparently lived in her BMW.

The neighbor, who identified himself as Mark, said the child was like a niece to him and the woman “acted as if it were her child,” according to the news agency.

Recalling her disheveled appearance, he explained: “She had lipstick all over her face and just looked a little bit crazy and stuff.”

He added: “She says, ‘I am the Russian police and I am here to save you.'”

Perrone is charged with attempted kidnapping and false imprisonment, as well as a misdemeanor for the stabbing. Her arraignment took place on Friday.

Santa Monica police said this was her first incident with police, but she had previously been arrested out of state for assault, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance and trespassing.

Perrone was involved in an alleged assault with a deadly weapon in Los Angeles, but was released due to lack of evidence.

She is currently on probation for a case in Nevada, and there is a warrant out for her arrest in New Hampshire, according to the news agency.
