City Life Org – Brooklyn Museum announces public programs for visitors of all ages in September

A varied program welcomes community members to the museum

The Brooklyn Museum announces its packed September programming, including the largest LGBTQIA+ fashion show of New York Fashion Week, a Nico Williams-inspired art weekend session: Aaniin, I See Your Light, and the continuation of our summer jazz concert series. Additional programming includes classes, tours, and special events that expand the museum’s exhibitions and collections, serve the surrounding community, and support learning through visual art.

Museum members receive free or discounted admission and early access to public programs.

Highlights of the full schedule are as follows:

dapperQ presents Nine
Thursday, September 5, 6–11 p.m.
Beaux-Arts Court, 3rd floor
Tickets cost $20.

Queer style platform dapperQ once again presents Nine, the ninth annual edition of New York Fashion Week’s biggest LGBTQIA+ fashion show. Start the evening with a happy hour hosted by Henrietta Hudson, New York’s oldest lesbian bar, and browse pop-up shops before the runway show.

Brooklyn Pop-Up Market
Sundays, 8–29 September, 10:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m.
Plaza, 1st floor
The event is free of charge and takes place outdoors (location in case of rain: pavilion, 1st floor).

Stop by our market to purchase unique, handcrafted items from artisans and vendors across Brooklyn, including artwork, jewelry, fashion, home and apothecary goods, and more.

Celebrate the opening of Elizabeth Catlett: A Black Revolutionary Artist and All That It Implies with close looks, conversations, and a tribute performance by Francisco Mora Catlett and AfroHORN.

Get inspired by Nico Williams’ outdoor installation! Watch Nico Williams: Aaniin, I See Your Light and then help create a community chalk drawing inspired by the work on display.

Brooklyn Talks: What if we get it right? with Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson
Tuesday, September 17, 7–9 p.m.

Tickets cost $40 and include a copy of the book.

Celebrate the launch of Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson’s book, What If We Get It Right? Visions of Climate Futures, with friends and collaborators from the worlds of culture and science.

Yoga on the stairs

Tickets cost $20 and include general admission to the museum.

Meet us on the steps of the Plaza for a morning of yoga and meditation, open to all levels and led by local teachers.

Brooklyn reads: A Woman is a School with Céline Semaan

Tickets cost $50 and include a copy of the book.

Celebrate the release of A Woman Is a School, the latest autobiography from Slow Factory founder Céline Semaan.

Summer Jazz: Siren Xypher

This event is free and open to the public.

Stop by the museum lobby to see a performance by Siren Xypher, a musical collective of three composers.
