“Just reach out. We just need to know you’re OK,” Guerrero said. “If someone has her, please just let her go.”

Family says Ja’Niyah was last seen on the evening of Aug. 11 at the Gary, Indiana, home she shares with her mother, Jasmine McMichael, and siblings.

The home where the teen was last seen is in the 1900 block of Malcom X Drive, Gary police said. She is 4 feet 3 inches tall and weighs about 110 pounds. She was last seen wearing black pajamas, a black hoodie and black and red shoes.

Jasmine says that when she got up early the next morning to wake the children for school, the front door was ajar, the back door was unlocked, and her eldest daughter was missing.

It’s like looking for a needle in a haystack, especially when there are no cell phone signals and no social media communication.

Lorenzo Longoria, dog trainer helps in the search

“Just come home. We just want you to come home,” Jasmine said.

Ja’Niyah’s mother said some of the teenager’s clothes are also missing.

Family and friends, with the help of some volunteers, led their latest organized search for the teenager on Saturday.

“Because of the proximity between Gary and Chicago, we don’t know if Ja’Niyah is still in the area or if she has spread,” said Lisette Guillen of Case Files Chicago.

“We want to bring Ja’Niyah home safely and we want the community to help us bring her home safely,” said Sylvia Galvan of Circle of Love of Northwest Indiana.

Dog trainer Lorenzo Longoria and his dog Thor also joined the search team. The 5-year-old German Shepherd mix is one of two sniffer dogs working on the case.

“It’s like looking for a needle in a haystack, especially when there are no cell phone signals and no communication via social media,” Longoria said.

Seven team members were dispatched to 12 areas in Gary and Merrillville on Saturday, conducting searches and distributing leaflets.

Ja’Niyah’s family said she had never disappeared before. Concern continues to grow, and those who know and love the teenager promise to never give up hope.

“Ja’Niyah, come home, come home, come home,” said the missing teen’s other grandmother, Yolanda Walker. “We all miss you. Come home.”

The family is asking anyone with information on her whereabouts to call 888-222-6050. Gary Police are also asking anyone with information to call 911 or contact Detective Gregory Fayson of the Gary Police Department’s Juvenile Division.
