Republicans in Colorado voted 161.66 to 12 on Saturday to remove Republican Party Chairman Dave Williams from office.

More than 100 leading Republicans across Colorado had previously signed a petition seeking the removal of their party’s chairman in the state.

Republican Senator Barbara Kirkmeyer tweeted after the vote: “We are getting a new leader of the State GOP!”

The move came after Williams sent an email attacking Gay Pride month, calling the LGBTQ community “godless groomers” and calling for the burning of all Gay Pride flags on social media.

This is not the first time that Williams, a state representative whose district includes El Paso County, come under fire But for many Republicans, it was the last straw.

Since taking the Republican presidency, Williams has attacked Republicans who fail his purity test, interfered in Republican primaries in violation of the party’s charter, and used state party resources to support his own campaign for Congress.

Williams says the petition signers are “weak establishment Republicans” who are “fighting a civil war.” He will not apologize, even if it means losing his job.

He lost his primary bid for Colorado’s 5th Congressional District against Jeff Crank in June.

“Instead of focusing on what unites us, the message from the state Republican Party under the leadership of Dave Williams was a message of division fed by hateful narratives,” Kirkmeyer said. said in June. “It’s high time to part ways with Dave Williams. His tactics are undermining our ability to move Colorado forward.”

Williams and Colorado Republicans did not respond to a request for comment Saturday.
