Published in June 2012, Lollipop Chainsaw was a hack-and-slash game developed by Goichi Suda’s Grasshopper Manufacture. Together with Suda Lollipop Chainsaw was co-written by the now famous Hollywood writer and director James Gunn, with some of the game’s aesthetics and mechanics even influencing his version of Harley Quinn in The suicide squad. As for the game itself, Lollipop Chainsaw received mediocre reviews upon its release, but has gained something of a cult following in recent years due to its unique premise. And now the 2012 cult classic is getting a remake.

Titled Lollipop Chainsaw RePOPThis remaster is being developed by Dragami Games and is said to have neither Goichi Suda nor James Gunn involved. That means, Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP still looks like a solid remaster and offers plenty of new and optimized features that should keep fans busy when the game launches on September 12th.

Based on the list of features that Dragami changes or optimizes compared to the original version of the game, it is clear that the developer Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP to be as user-friendly and accessible as possible. Improved camera and key input responses make Lollipop Chainsaw RePOPGameplay feels more fluid moment by moment, and the default automatic setting of quick-time events undoubtedly helps the game feel a bit more modern.

It’s also great to see Dragami tweaking the balance of the zombie baseball minigame, a notoriously difficult element in its original release. The additional quality of life improvements, like increasing ammo for the Chainsaw Blaster and improving Nick Roulette’s abilities, are also certainly subtle but worthwhile changes that longtime fans of the game will notice.

The retail price is $44.99, which is perhaps a bit steep for a reissue.

While it is nice to see changes in the quality of life, it is Lollipop Chainsaw RePOPthat will attract fans again. As expected from any remaster, Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP will feature updated graphics and resolutions across all platforms, as well as higher frame rates on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.

Two new modes come with Lollipop Chainsaw RePOPThe first of these is the eponymous RePOP mode, which gives the game a colorful new pop-art-inspired look and, in particular, affects the game’s damage effects. The second mode is Real Time Attack, which requires players to complete the game’s six levels as quickly as possible. Their time is then recorded on a global leaderboard.

Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP will also include a ton of new collectibles. These include four additional chainsaws, each of which gives the protagonist Juliet a special ability, such as increasing the availability of gold medals or forcing zombies to attack the player rather than the survivors.
