Broken glass reduces capacity at North Commons Water Park for the rest of the year

A broken piece of glass at a water park in Minneapolis leads to a reduction in visitor numbers. This is the fourth time such an incident has occurred.

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) announced that North Commons Water Park will operate at reduced capacity through September 2, the end of the operating season.

The board said the reduced capacity was due to broken glass found in the water park’s lap pool on Thursday night. As a result, the lap pool will remain closed for the remainder of the season.

The paddling pool and diving pool remain available to park visitors.

According to the MPRB, broken glass is an ongoing problem at the North Commons and this incident marks the fourth time the park has closed the lap pool.

“Each incident requires MPRB staff to drain the pool, thoroughly clean it, refill it, then heat it and chemically calibrate it before it can be reopened,” MPRB said in a press release. “With little time remaining until the end of the swimming season, it is not feasible to perform this process a fourth time.”

The MPRB said it is working to prevent such incidents in the future.
