“Rising Star” Far Bridge turns back “time” in Sword Dancer

LSU stables “TDN Rising Star” FAR BRIDGE (c, 4, English Channel–Fitpitcher, by Kitten’s Joy) was left alone in the lead and ridden to perfection by Joel Rosario to win the GI Resorts World Casino Sword Dancer Invitational Stakes by about a length on Saturday to earn a berth in the GI Breeders’ Cup Turf at Del Mar on the first weekend in November. A distant third at 8-1 behind Godolphin’s GI Manhattan Stakes hero Measured Time (GB) (Frankel {GB}) and the longer-winded Silver Knott (GB) (Lope de Vega {Ire}), Far Bridge went straight to the lead and although the time was quite comfortable over the first half-mile, the real damage was done in the next two furlongs where Far Bridge – pressured throughout by GII Bowling Green Stakes winner Silver Knott – was allowed to cover that distance in a leisurely :26.29. The four-year-old remained in control but Measured Time, who was a little single-minded on this first attempt at the 12-furlong distance, broke away on the inside and was thrown three wide at the head of the track. But as he had done in the Manhattan – where he was good enough to overtake it on the shorter course – Measured Time moved a little to the outside and with a final sprint home in :23.21, Far Bridge fended off the challenger and emerged a comfortable one-length winner at the finish.
