Far Bridge defeats Godolphin duo in Sword Dancer surprise

Wide Bridge defeated a strongly supported Godolphin pair of Measured time And Silver Knott (GB) with a surprising victory from start to finish in the $750,000 Sword Dancer Stakes (G1T) on August 24 in Saratoga Racetrack.

Under the masterful ride of newly elected Hall of Famer Joel Rosario, the four-year-old stallion from the English Channel mastered the first sections effortlessly and still had enough strength to fend off an attack from Measured Time on the track.

Far Bridge ($18.40), trained by Christophe Clement for LSU Stables, crossed the finish line with a final time of 2:29.51 for the 1 1/12 miles on firm turf. Measured Time and Silver Knott, who tracked Far Bridge the entire time, finished second and third for trainer Charlie Appleby.

With his victory in the Sword Dancer, a Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series event, Far Bridge automatically receives a place in the Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1T) on November 2 at Del Mar.
