The Minnesota Vikings have just three draft picks total next year. Thanks to their moves in the 2024 NFL Draft, which saw them sign quarterback JJ McCarthy and outside linebacker Dallas Turner, they have one first-round and two fifth-round draft picks. Less than ideal if you’re general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah.

Despite only having three draft picks in 2025, there are a few players the Vikings could trade to earn more draft capital. At least according to a Minnesota Vikings sports reporter.

Three potential players the Minnesota Vikings could trade for more draft capital

According to Judd Zulgad (Skor North), there are three potential players the Minnesota Vikings could trade in the next few days. These players are former safety Lewis Cine, a first-round pick in 2022, inside linebacker Brian Asamoah, a third-round pick in 2022, and outside linebacker Patrick Jones II, a third-round pick in 2021.

It will be interesting to see if general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah looks to make any trades before cuts are announced on Tuesday. The Vikings would like to add a draft pick or two, as they currently have just three for 2025, including their first-round pick. Safety Lewis Cine was clearly featured last Saturday against the Browns and should get plenty of snaps against the Eagles. Speculation on other players Adofo-Mensah may want to trade: linebacker Brian Asamoah, a third-round pick in 2022, and/or pass rusher Pat Jones II, a third-round pick in 2021.

Cine has been talked about as a trade target before, but he had a strong preseason game that Adofo-Mensah may still have in the back of his mind. Despite being a former first-round pick, Cine just didn’t work out for this team. That’s extremely unfortunate, but that’s the nature of the NFL sometimes.

Asamoah is also an interesting trade piece. Last season he was supposed to be the starting inside linebacker, but was beaten out by undrafted free agent Ivan Pace Jr. At the time, things were looking really bad for Asamoah. However, Pace Jr. has developed into one of the best linebackers in the NFL.

Zulgad’s listing of Jones II was also quite interesting. Jones II didn’t accomplish much in his NFL time with the Minnesota Vikings, but really seemed to take the “next step” this offseason.

What could the Minnesota Vikings get for these players?

It’s unlikely the Vikings will get a high-profile draft pick for any of these players. They’ll likely get a sixth or seventh round draft pick in return. There may be conditional action on these picks depending on snap counts during the season.

Overall, having only three picks in the 2025 NFL Draft isn’t exactly great. Adofo-Mensah has the chance to add more draft picks for players who are likely to opt out or see limited action during the season. Will Adofo-Mensah make those moves by Tuesday, August 27 at 3 p.m. CST?
