Romance in the House, episode 5, recap and spoilers
Romance in the house Episode 5 aired on JTBC and Netflix on Saturday, August 24, 2024. It is a family drama about a man trying to win back his family after a decade. It stars Ji Jin-Hee, Son Na-Eun, Kim Jee-Soo, and Choi Min-Ho.
In the previous episode, Ae-Yeon (Jee-Soo) learned of Moo-Jin’s (Jin-Hee) return. The synopsis of episode 4 reads: “Moo-Jin clears himself of suspicion in connection with the fire incident. Later, Ae-Yeon briefly disappears, leading to a chaotic family reunion at the police station.”
Episode 5 begins with a flashback to the day Moo-Jin and Ae-Yeon got married. She was pregnant and did not hold a wedding but took a wedding photo in a studio. They promised each other love forever and ever. Later, Moo-Jin failed to become a reliable and responsible family man and left his wife ten years ago. Now he has returned to win back what he lost ten years ago.
What happens in episode 5 of “Romance in the House”?
Episode 5 of Romance in the House also features a brief interaction between Moo-Jin and his ex-lover Jeong-In. It seems they met in Thailand after he left his family in Korea. They fell in love but broke up.
The next day, Ae-Yeon yells at her daughter Mi-Rae (Na-Eun) and asks her to stay away from her and Moo-Jin’s affair. Later, Moo-Jin tries to impress his ex-wife, who accepts his dinner proposal. After dinner, Ae-Yeon goes at him and tries to make him understand that he should not spend money. She fears that he will go bankrupt again.
In response, Moo-Jin says she can keep him under control. She asks, “Why me?” Moo-Jin replies, “Geum Ae-Yeon is the only woman in my life.” After a long pause, Ae-Yeon tells him to date someone else and move on, leaving him heartbroken. Moo-Jin leaves the restaurant as she claims he has no place in their little family.
Meanwhile, tax consultant Jae-Geol plans a move against Moo-Jin, believing that Ae-Yeon is a threat to his plan. Ae-Yeon, on the other hand, spends a day with Mi-Rae and explains that she found the strength to divorce Moo-Jin years ago because of her daughter.
Later that night, Mi-Rae bumps into Tae-Pyeong (SHINee’s Min-Ho) and his gestures make her heart skip a beat. However, Mi-Rae thinks it’s dangerous to get close to him. She warns him rudely, “You’re still being nice to me and that bothers me.” He is confused by her behavior and his feelings for her.
Ae-Yeon finds Jeong-In drunk outside her apartment complex. She takes her inside and finds an old photo of Jeong-In and Moo-Jin. She then remembers how and when she met the woman and became friends. Ae-Yeon looks disappointed and thinks that Jeong-In is probably her ex-husband’s mistress. Ae-Yeon tries to confront her friend but fails miserably.
Spoilers for the end of episode 5 of “Romance in the House”
Tae-Pyeong comes to Mi-Rae’s aid again in episode 5 of Romance in the House. While walking on the beach, she sees her father Moo-Jin. Mi-Rae expresses her disappointment at his return, while Moo-Jin explains that he wants to make amends.
Later, father and daughter meet again. Moo-Jin gives her a pledge that he will leave as his daughter wants. He decides to transfer all his property to Ae-Yeon. His decision makes Mi-Rae angry and she warns him that he cannot leave until he takes care of his son Hyeon-Jae. The latter was previously caught skipping school. He told Mi-Rae that their father had returned, so he would leave school and open a business. Therefore, Mi-Rae orders his father to take responsibility for his son and raise him after his return.
Towards the end of the episode, Ae-Yeon confronts Moo-Jin about his relationship with Jeong-In. At first he is shocked, but later he asks if she is jealous.
