LSU Football could sign a fourth five-star player today as well as a cornerback from the state

As it stands, the LSU football program enters the week as the third-best recruiting class in the nation with 24 commitments. The Tigers have three five-star commitments according to On3’s industry recruiting rankings, trailing only Ohio State and Alabama, who have four five-star commitments. The Tigers could tie the Tide and Buckeyes today if either of the Tigers’ two prospects announces their commitment.

Five-star safety and two-sport star Jonah Williams will announce his commitment at 6:30 Central Time. Three of the four major recruiting services see Williams as the best safety in his class, while the competition sees him as an outside linebacker. On the baseball field, Williams is an incredible pitcher, hitting 94 mph in July.

The Tigers have been recruiting Williams for longer than most other finalist programs. For a long time, it seemed like that recruitment was going to be about LSU and Texas A&M, but when A&M’s baseball team went to Texas, the Longhorns showed up. It seemed like LSU was in a great position before Bayou Splash, but Williams never made it to Baton Rouge.

Most recruiting experts are betting on Texas, but anything can happen, and if it’s not Texas, it’s likely to be LSU. Those same experts also predicted DJ Pickett would go to Miami and Oregon before choosing LSU. After Texas missed out on some of the state’s biggest recruits, it seems like they won’t be able to turn down Williams, but LSU shouldn’t be written off.

The Tigers, however, are likely to get another commitment when Louisiana native Aidan Anding announces his commitment. The Tigers are finalists alongside the Texas Longhorns and Arkansas, but the Tigers are seemingly the team to beat. LSU has been dominant in recruiting in the state and considering that LSU’s push caused Anding to delay his recruitment when it looked like he was going to Texas, LSU is the pick here.

Regardless of whether LSU gets Williams or not, this defensive class is incredible for rebuilding LSU’s defensive backs. Signing Anding would give LSU three cornerback commitments in Kade Phillips and DJ Pickett, and even though Anding is currently a three-star recruit, he will end up as one of the best cornerbacks in this class. Signing Williams would take this class to a whole new stratosphere, as LSU would get the best safety and cornerback in the first recruiting class with the new personnel.
