UPDATED: AISA retracts earlier statement.

Morgan Academy quarterback Caden Tellier is in critical condition after sustaining an injury on the field during Friday’s game.

Michael McLendon of AISA issued a statement about his death, which he has since retracted.

Tellier was injured in the third quarter of Morgan’s 30-22 win over Southern. He was flown by helicopter to Children’s Hospital.

His condition is still classified as critical this afternoon.

The following message was sent to all Morgan families:

Dear Morgan families,

Last night, our school community experienced a situation most of us have never faced before. In times like these, it is important to support one another and trust in the Lord. There are no words to express the range of emotions you or your family may be experiencing.

We have decided to suspend all school athletic activities, including practices and games, for the next week. We will use this time as a school family to reflect, pray, and process everything that has happened.

We plan to have classes on Monday. We have arranged for several pastors to be on campus to assist students in various ways. If you feel the need to be with your student outside of school, please do so. Monday will look different for us, but our goal will be to provide a place for students to feel safe and loved.

I will continue to keep you updated on any further changes to our schedule. Please pray for the Tellier family and that God’s overwhelming love will surround them. Everyone at the school is here for your child and your family. Please do not hesitate to reach out to any of us.
