Alabama high school football player dies after injury during game

Morgan Academy quarterback Caden Tellier died Saturday after suffering a head injury during the private school’s first home game in Selma on Friday night.

Michael McLendon, director of the Alabama Independent Schools Association, confirmed Caden’s death.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Morgan Academy football player Caden Tellier. At AISA, we are a close-knit school family and our hearts are heavy as we extend our deepest condolences and prayers to Caden’s family, friends and the entire Morgan Academy community,” McLendon said in a statement. “The loss is unimaginable and we stand with them in their grief.”

Morgan played for Southern Academy and Caden, a junior, suffered a head injury during the game and was flown by helicopter to a hospital in Birmingham.

McLendon confirmed that Morgan Academy will “cease” all school activities next week.

“As a small school, Morgan Academy feels this tragedy more deeply than ever before, and the Alabama Independent School Association stands by them with all its strength and resources to support them in their grief.”
