Alabama high school football player dies after injury during game

Morgan Academy student-athlete Caden Tellier died overnight after sustaining an injury during his team’s game against Southern Academy in Selma.

Michael McLendon, executive director of the Alabama Independent School Association, confirmed the news to AL.com on Saturday morning.

“At AISA, we are a close-knit school family and our hearts are heavy as we extend our deepest condolences and prayers to Caden’s family, friends and the entire Morgan Academy community,” McLendon said in a statement. “This loss is unimaginable and we stand with them in their grief.”

Tellier was a quarterback at Morgan Academy.

McLendon said Morgan Academy will suspend all school activities for the coming week to give the community time to come together, reflect and support each other in coping with the loss.

“As a small school, Morgan Academy feels this tragedy even more deeply, and the Alabama Independent School Association is here to offer them any support and resources they need in their grief,” he said. “We ask that our entire AISA family and the people of Alabama join us in praying for peace and comfort for Caden’s family and the Morgan Academy community as they go through this difficult time of grief.”
