“Hawk Tuah Girl” receives angry reactions from fans for first pitch at Mets game: “Terrible decision”

The famous “Hawk Tuah Girl” was the special guest of the New York Mets on Thursday and threw the first pitch before their game.

“Hawk Tuah Girl” is Haliey Welch, a Tennessee native who went viral with her now infamous line in response to the question “what move” in the bedroom makes a guy “go crazy.”

“Oh, you have to whisper… thuah, spit on that thing – you hear me?” she said at the Country Music Awards weekend in Nashville.

The clip became an instant hit on TikTok and has since spread everywhere. At first, 21-year-old Welch kept a low profile, but now she’s seizing the opportunity.

Last month, she reportedly pocketed $30,000 to perform at a South Florida pool club, fittingly wearing a Tua Tagovailoa shirsey.

On Thursday, she put her athletic skills to the test when she took the mound during a day game between the Mets and the Oakland Athletics.

Welch’s appearance sparked quite a reaction.

“So the Mets decided to have the Hawk Tuah Girl throw out the first pitch for a summer camp day game where the vast majority of fans are 11-year-old kids who are at the ballpark on camp trips. Seriously, what were they thinking? It would be better than this.” A user wrote on X.

“What a terrible, terrible decision to legitimize her and give her a platform,” said another.

Other users called it “pathetic” and “disgusting.”

Others defended Welch, saying she didn’t sign up to go viral. Since becoming famous on social media, she has also donated to charity.

The Mets blew a 5-0 lead against the A’s, losing 7-6 in the longest nine-inning game of the pitch-timer era (3 hours, 45 minutes). Many now believe Welch cursed the 2024 Mets.

That remains to be seen, of course, but Thursday could have been the Mets’ worst loss of the season.
