DNF2001 Restoration Project developers on progress so far and QuakeCon 2024

We had a chance meeting with the developers of the DNF2001 Restoration project at QuakeCon 2024, which led to a nice conversation about the latest developments on the project!

One of the best things about QuakeCon 2024 was the busy BYOC (as always), and we happened to meet the developers of the DNF2001 Restoration Project there. They came by to show off their latest builds of the project and even let attendees play. It’s been a few years since we brought the project’s crew to our Shacknews E7 Showcase to show off what the team is doing, but it just so happened that we met Kevin “ETPC” Matthews, Social Media Manager of the DNF2001 Restoration Project, on the show floor, and he was kind enough to talk to us about where the project stands in 2024.

In case you didn’t know, the DNF2001 Restoration Project is an attempt to fix the ill-fated Duke Nukem Forever and make it the game it was supposed to be based on the lost 2001 version. The team has been taking deleted content and concepts and trying to put them back into the game, as well as fixing bugs, filling in gaps, and polishing broken parts across the board. They’re also building proper single-player and multiplayer systems so people can play together. You can check out our previous E7 interview with the crew to see how far the project has come.

It was an absolute joy for ETPC and the DNF2001RP team to be able to share the latest builds of the game at QuakeCon 2024. QuakeCon is a sacred place for games like Duke Nukem and the team was thrilled by the enthusiasm of fans who came by to play as they showcased their latest demo all weekend long. It was also a great place to gather feedback and see how everything they do works. If you want to see the group’s latest QuakeCon updates, you can check out the DNF2001 Restoration Project’s ModDB page or join the project’s community Discord.
