17-year-old girl killed in crash on I-93 in New Hampshire, state police said

A 17-year-old girl died when her car went off the highway and struck several trees Friday afternoon, state police said.

The driver, identified as Lillianna Cawthron of Londonderry, was taken by ambulance to Elliott Hospital in Manchester with life-threatening injuries, state police said. She later died at the hospital.

On Friday at 2:47 p.m., state police officers were called to a crash near mile marker 14 on Interstate 93 southbound.

When police arrived and spoke with witnesses, they found that a gray 2008 Mercury Milan was traveling southbound when it veered right off the highway and struck several trees.

A video from the scene of the accident shows the car wrapped around several trees.

The highway was completely closed for a short time while firefighters worked to free the driver from his vehicle, state police said.

State police were assisted at the scene by the Londonderry Police and Fire Departments and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.

While investigators were on scene, traffic was limited to two lanes for about four hours.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the fatal crash is asked to contact Trooper Daniel Morton at 603-223-4381 or [email protected].

This is a developing story. Check back later for updates as more information becomes available.
