Height-enhancing sneakers are the next viral trend for men, says @iam.thats.a.bad.idea in a TikTok he uploaded on August 14. He is advertising a pair of white, three-inch platform sneakers.

His TikTok has over 11 million views and over 6,000 comments.

KDN Shoes sells the platform sneakers on TikTok’s shop. The viral shoes, which come in eight different colors, have a 4.4 rating and nearly 3,000 reviews. They have also sparked heated debates online.

Are the platform sneakers of high quality?

The TikToker praises the platform sneakers as comfortable, good-looking and affordable. They cost around $20.

“You can see there’s a lot of padding inside,” he says. “The arch support is great.”

However, many commentators pointed out that the threads on the shoes were loose.

“They fall apart easily,” wrote one user.

The reviews of the platform sneakers in the TikTok shop are similarly mixed.

“The soles start to peel off after a few weeks of use,” wrote one reviewer.

Another reviewer said the rubber soles started to come off after one day.

“The insole is so thin that you can feel every plastic rib poking through the shoe when you walk,” the reviewer continued. “The shoe looks good, but the quality is that of a cheap shoe.”

Another reviewer said he liked the shoes but would recommend purchasing insoles.

“This is the most comfortable shoe I’ve had in a long time,” wrote another reviewer. “It fits perfectly and is so soft. It feels like a cloud on your feet!”

Should men wear platform shoes?

@iam.thats.a.bad.idea began his TikTok by demonstrating the difference in his height with and without platform sneakers.

“Brb, about to go pick up some 6’3″ ladies,” reads his caption.

In the comments, viewers discussed the size-enhancing effect of the shoes.

“Notice that no woman in the comments says this is catfishing,” one viewer wrote in the comments.

Heterosexual men often lie about their height to appear more attractive to women, so El Pais.

In March, the Spanish newspaper reported that Bumble’s size filter was one of the most popular.

However, the debate about men’s height is in flux. A representative from Bumble said El Pais that for over 30% of the dating app’s users “size is no longer an important issue”.

“We little people have to stick together,” wrote another.

“Shoes that make you taller and go viral show how insecure people are… just be yourself,” wrote another.

In December 2023, people on the men’s fashion subreddit were discussing platform sneakers and other shoes.

“What do you think of a man wearing platform shoes?” asked a 5’3” man.

“I would just accept your size,” wrote one user. “Only thing you can do bro.”

“Platforms on a short guy are like a toupee on a balding guy,” wrote another. “It doesn’t fool anyone and it makes you look insecure.”

“My outfit, my rules,” wrote one user about wearing platform sneakers as a man. “These shoes boost your self-confidence.”
