3-year-old mare secures automatic berth in Maker’s Mark Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf with $2 million prize money via Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series: Win and you’re in

YORK, Yorkshire, England (22 August 2024) ─ Westerberg, Mrs. John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith Contents (IRE) has gained the upper hand You are with me (GB) On Thursday there was a thrilling finale at the Pertemps Network Yorkshire Oaks (G1) in York. The daughter of Galileo (IRE) secured an automatic starting place in the Maker’s Mark Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1) with prize money of US$ 2 million via the Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series: win and you’re in.

The Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series is an international series of 82 stakes races, the winners of which automatically receive berths and entry fees for a corresponding race in the Breeders’ Cup World Championships, to be held on November 1 and 2 at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club in Del Mar, California.

Content, trained by Aidan O’Brien and ridden by Ryan Moore, was very committed during the first half of the 1 1/2 mile race but then raced on the inside of the track as the fast-running Emily Upjohn (UK) and You Got To Me engaged in a thrilling battle down the middle. You Got To Me, who defeated Content in the Juddmonte Irish Oaks (G1) last month, passed Emily Upjohn but could not catch Content, who held on to a three-quarter length lead, with Emily Upjohn a further length back in third.

Content completed the 1 1/2 miles in 2:28:75 against seven opponents on what was described as good to firm ground. She was the 100th individual Group 1 winner for her father.

Aidan O’Brien, who won the £500,000 competition for the eighth time, said: “She was very determined at the start and it’s very rare that a horse runs half as determined and wins. I thought the fuel gauge was going to run dry and Ryan said it was but she kept coming and is a typical example of a Galileo; when there’s nothing left, when her legs can move, they give everything and that’s what she did. She kept going to the end. They’re so authentic.”

Content could return to America for another shot at the Breeders’ Cup after finishing fourth in the 2023 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1). O’Brien said: “She will definitely end up where the pace is fast. She could end up in America at the Breeders’ Cup.”

As part of the Challenge Series benefits, Breeders’ Cup will pay entry fees for content to compete in the Maker’s Mark Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf. Breeders’ Cup will also provide travel stipends to all competitors outside of North America to compete in the World Championships.
