Joanna Sternberg has returned with the new single “A Country Dance.” The track follows Joanna’s 2024 LP I have … myself, and played an important role in the upcoming film Between the templesstarring Jason Schwartzman and Carol Kane and directed by Nathan Silver. “A Country Dance” was recorded in upstate New York by Alex Wenquest and was inspired by Joanna’s close friend Sami Bronowski, who first encouraged Joanna to sing in public. Of “A Country Dance,” Joanna explains, “The joke of the song is: I don’t dance, I don’t drink wine, I don’t go outside, and I DEFINITELY don’t go out into nature (allergies and insect phobias), but I wanted a playful, silly song to sing that captured the fun I have with my lovely buddy.”

This month, Joanna will perform a series of shows in the UK, followed by a performance in support of The Babies’ sold-out reunion in New York.

Joanna further explains the use of the track in the film: “I think the reason the song fits into this beautiful film is because it captures a freewheeling, imaginative feeling. The lyrics are vague enough to be applied to anything and it just creates a ‘fun and lighthearted’ mood!”

In Between The Temples, which recently screened to great acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival, Ben (Schwartzman) plays a forty-something cantor who is losing his voice and possibly his faith. While trying to meet the expectations of his rabbi, his congregation and not one but two Jewish mothers (Caroline Aaron and Dolly De Leon), Ben’s world is turned upside down when his elementary school music teacher (Kane) re-enters his life as a grown-up bat mitzvah student. This warm and unsettling comedy from prolific writer-director Nathan Silver explores the complexities of faith, connection and what it means to be a real human being.
