Dance-loving centenarian celebrates 100th birthday

A centenarian celebrated her 100th birthday with a coffee klatch.

Renee West, who lives at Greenbank Court in Baildon, turned 100 last week and celebrated with her niece Sandra Weatherall and her flatmates.

Mrs West was presented with flowers by the staff and rounded off her celebration with a piece of cake and a cup of tea.

To celebrate the special occasion, a birthday card from the King and Queen also arrived.

Atis Krumins, manager of Greenbank Court Pension Scheme, said: “We all love Renee and she brings a smile to everyone she meets.”

“It is a privilege to have her here at Greenbank Court.”

Born on 17 August 1924 in Bishop Auckland, Durham, Mrs West moved numerous times in West Yorkshire and, as an adult, was a regular visitor to the Caroline Street Club in Saltaire.

She loves dancing and shares her passion with her sister and niece on Saturday nights.

Ms West said: “I don’t feel any different as I can still do things.

“I dance in the club and that’s what it’s all about.”
