It was the second night of racing week for the 70th Gold Cup Race of Champions for the Kubota High Limit Racing Tour on Friday, which featured the second of two heats toward Saturday’s Crown Jewel at Silver Dollar Speedway in California, which offers a purse of US$100,070.

Tanner Thorson defeated Rico Abreu to secure his first-ever High Limit victory, albeit in a split field. The Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, rider led the final four laps and won the second Gold Cup heat.

Abreu, who led the first 26 of 30 laps, finished second, 0.487 seconds behind Thorson. Californians DJ Netto and Cory Eliason finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Thorson and Abreu will compete on Saturday along with Thursday’s heat drivers Corey Day and Spencer Bayston.
