Wixon Creek SUD implements Phase 1 of Drought Emergency Plan

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Despite a wet and relatively mild summer, some homeowners in the Brazos Valley are now subject to mandatory watering restrictions.

New Level 1 restrictions went into effect Thursday for customers of the Wickson Creek Special Utility District.

According to Jennifer Nations, the city of College Station’s water resources coordinator, rain this summer has actually reduced water usage. However, she says providers have seen a significant increase in demand over the past 30 days.

The current requirements for Wickson Creek Our customers include:

  • Outdoor watering is limited to two days per week
  • Addresses with even numbers water Saturday and Wednesday
  • Addresses with odd numbers pour Sunday and Thursday
  • No watering between 5 a.m. and 9 p.m.

Nations says even if your provider doesn’t mandate a two-day watering schedule, every person who drinks less water can make a difference.

“If the water towers are emptying as fast as they’re filling, people are going to notice the lower water pressure. When we have low water pressure, the concern isn’t just that you can’t shower. The concern is that there’s a fire somewhere and we don’t have enough water pressure to fight it,” Nations said. “That’s why it’s really, really important not to overwater in the summer.”
